Port Canaveral, Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, and Orlando

June will launch us into the dog days of summer so it is very important you are going fishing with the right mind set. I’m going to spin this report a little from what options a angler has to be successful to what customers we need to have as captains to be successful. You have to be fishing for the pure fun of fishing. Short half or 7 hour days are the best bet. Usually we can get some quick action live bait trolling first thing in the morning. A few king mackerel & occasionally a cobia or a mahi to be caught. Once the live bait trolling slows, have a enjoyable experience fighting a big shark or two to round out the day. Everyone will be exhausted after the sharks and you, your friends and family will have awesome stories on how it took everyone working together to catch them. Have your fresh catch cooked up right at the Grills Restaurant where we are located for lunch or a early dinner then go enjoy the evening at the beach or at the pool where you are staying. This lays out the perfect summertime fishing trip & is a experience that everyone can enjoy.

Yellowfin Tuna fishing is still going to be good. Maybe not quite the potential of April & May but in my opinion it is better because the sea conditions are typically nice and calm making that long ride enjoyable. This is a very specific trip so if you want to catch tuna you have to book a tuna trip. We go 80 to 120 miles out on these trips and the price is $4,600.00. I have had a handful of people lately thinking they are going after tuna on a $1300 full day. $1300 doesn’t even come close to covering fuel on a tuna trip so please do a little research so your not disappointed 😁

The rest of this report is for those who insist on being difficult 🤣.

Another option to put fish in the box is to switch over to chicken rig fishing. It’s a numbers game but after X amount of grunts and X amount of red snapper occasionally a trigger fish, vermillion or lane snapper gets caught. If you have everyone putting in the effort and not getting discouraged after 20 fish you can’t keep you end up with a nice catch at the end of the day. Numbers Game!

Some refuse to let go of mahi madness and that’s quite ok if you have the correct mind set. I see people post on forums all the time where they go trolling all day and end up with 1 or 2 mahi and they are thrilled. That is the perfect attitude for summertime mahi fishing. This year we had good mahi fishing for the first 2 weeks of May and then it went downhill quick.

You can also deep drop for golden tile fish and mahi fish at the same time. Put a couple ballyhoo out the back while stemming the current and you just doubled your odds. Nothing wrong with a couple mahi & a couple golden tiles at the end of the day. You might even stumble upon a snowy grouper or yellowedge grouper.

The right mindset is key to summertime fishing and we are looking forward to some calm days on the water.
