The first week of March has ranged from 70 to 76 degrees at times. There was lots of sunshine, bait, and a few negative tides. March is a transitional month; redfish and snook begin to make their way out of the backwaters and creeks heading for spawning grounds and bigger meals, in the bay and in the passes.

For me, the inshore bite for Redfish and Snook has been as good as it gets, with the shallow water population all healthy & hungry.

Cobia is the fish on every locals mind and with fuel being so expensive and cobia fishing being close. These fish are going to get punished if they actually pop. You better be first to find them, because by the time you see it on social media, too many boats are on it and it’s over.

Old Salt Kids Fishing Slam Is Back

After a 2 year hiatus, Old Salt is bringing the much loved Kids Fishing Slam. As in the past, the Slam will be held in conjunction with conjunction with the Spring King of the Beach King mackerel Fishing Tournament. The Kids Fishing Slam is a labor of love for Old Salt and a unique experience for the kids and families that participate. Kids will fish the seawall at the tournament venue, Madeira Beach Recreation Complex and we will typically host between of 600-700 kids and their families. The kids and their families have a great time and leave with some fine memories. Signup for the 2022 Kids Slam will start in early April.
