So, I told you all that every week I would give you an update on the upcoming King of the Beach in April. So, today we have a video that I made from the Fall event.

The entire team (board of directors) has already been working on the upcoming 19th Annual Spring King of the Beach! WOW … seems like time is flying by. We want EVERYONE to save the date: April 26, 27, and 28th, 2012. It will be a 3 day festival to celebrate the “KING”! It is always fabulous and exciting to see who will be crowned next ….. So, get your teams put together and start on strategies!

Speaking on strategies…. Look for exciting updates for the next 10 weeks leading up to the event. We are going to release some older videos from years past, announce SPONSORS and special PRIZE packages and much, much more. So, check back weekly to see what is happening in the Salts.

Big Catches at the February Monthly Meeting

The meeting this month, which was one week earlier than normal (due to Valentine’s Day), was a lot of fun. Capt. Trae Sorenson gave an inshore seminar. He was our Master Angler at the Johnny Kellar Tournament last month. Capt. Trae basically grew up in the Old Salts – he went from learning “how to” at seminars to giving them! Congrats and job well done on his first seminar. We would be proud to have you back any time.

BIG CATCHES: After the seminar we had an AWESOME raffle. Thanks to great sponsors: FISH and Johnston Jewelers, we had great fishing items and two beautiful pendants (just in time for valentines) in the raffle. We also had a members only drawing for a FREE round-trip ticket to the keys. Sea Coast Airlines has come on strong this year for our members – look for more ways to win a ticket! If you haven’t gone on a trip aboard Sea Coast – you should! The entire trip is flown low – lots of awesome scenery on the quick trip to Key West.

We had a lot of membership renewals this month … remember to renew or join as soon as possible! All memberships expired in December 2011 from last year, so everyone needs to renew. BONUS: MirrOlure has graciously donated a lure package to all members this year – so, for a limited time only, renew or join and get 2 soft bait and 2 hard bait packs with your membership.

Johnny Kellar …RESULTS

The 22nd Annual Johnny Kellar was a HUGE success!
Thank you to everyone that participated in the event.
We had some great sponsors this year too: Daiquiri Deck; Bay Pines Marina; Bett’s Fishing Center;
Mirr-O-Lure; FISH; Dogfish Tackle; Madeira Beach Marina; Snappers Sea Grill; Madfish; Delosa’s Pizza; Jim and Slims Tool Supply and Coastal Angler.

We had 206 Anglers out competing on a beautiful day – 57 anglers brought back to the scales an impressive 97 fish total! Included were some awesome Black Drum – both weighed in at 40+ pounds! The FWC was out doing a study on the fish (mainly Black Drum and trout).

The Johnny Kellar Inshore Tournament is coming up fast! January 26th is the Captain’s Party and fishing is on Sunday the 29th. We have changed up a species this year NO GAGS … instead BLACK DRUM! We also are keeping REDFISH as a photo release species too. All the rules and regulations are here. REGISTER TODAY and get your spot in a really fun inshore event. Gallery Woo 1 year Anniversary

Don’t miss this great event …. Bill Correira Woo is having his one year Gallery Woo anniversary ! Woo has been selected to paint the King of the Beach artwork for SPRING 2012. We look forward to kingfishing WOO STYLE!!

If you haven’t heard of him … go check his work out here. He has overcome a lot and doing what his passion drives him towards … painting. Of course the Old Salts love his work (it is all fish oriented) and we LOVE our fish!

The event is January 14, 2012 and is from 6-10pm. His gallery is located at 689 Central Avenue, Suite 100, Saint Petersburg, FL 33701 (the heart of the art district)

Enjoy his work along with other artists and food and libations from The Burg Bar and Grill and smooth jazz trumpet by Chuck Weirich. See ya there.
